Welcome to the Olivas Weekend Women's Golf Club Website!

Ask our members and they will tell you that this is true. The Olivas Weekend Women’s Golf Club was founded almost 30 years ago to meet the needs of the working women.

Today that still holds true, however we have many members that are now retired but continue to stay with the Club because of friendships that have been formed over the years. Being part of our club is a great way to meet women, make friends and form friendships that last a lifetime.

We have monthly tournaments that are mostly run by club member volunteers, we have a Member-Guest tournament in the early part of the year (to recruit new members), we have a two day Club Championship and we have a really fun Holiday tournament.

All of the tournaments are very competitive but mostly a lot of fun: we play individual, partner and team formats.

Thank you for your participation in the Olivas Weekend Women’s Golf Club’s Member-Guest event to benefit the SCGA Junior Golf Foundation’s Long Drive for Girls Golf.

We had a full field of 52 intrepid players who braved the strangely cold weather and persevered to post very good team scores. Congratulations to all the winners! See the results below.

The real winner, though, was girls golf. With the various efforts including some of you donating your winnings, our effort raised a little over $3,000. Special thanks to our generous anonymous donor, the Jessie Chen Challenge (21 birdies and 1 eagle for $310 donation) and Olivas Links Golf Course. And, of course, the OWWGC Board for their support!

April Play Day Results

Shout out to Terry Ball, Georgiana Kiddle and Nancy Jelaca for hosting our April play day. We had a great turnout and great weather. The game was Mutt & Jeff which counted 3-Par 5s, 4- Par 4s and 2-Par 3s less half the player's handicap. There were winners for gross scores as well as net. World Handicap System 2024 Revisions

The World Handicap System is undergoing some revisions starting in January 2024.

The updated GHIN app in 2024 will ask you if you played 9, 10-17 or 18 holes.

9 hole scores will no longer be combined with another 9 hole score. Starting in 2024 - you can post a 9 hole score by itself and the GHIN app will create an extrapolated 18 hole differential using that 9 hole posting BUT you must play ALL 9 holes. IF you play less than 9 holes - you may NOT post - it will not be considered a valid round. WHS is no longer allowing use of the net par entry for missed holes.

If you play between 10 to 17 holes of an 18 hole round - starting in 2024 - you will only post the holes that you played. The GHIN app will create an 18 hole differential extrapolated from the holes that you play using your handicap, course rating and PCC. You MUST post this as hole by hole. Either one of the front 9 or back 9 must be played to completion for the round to be qualified to post. - Example - you arrive late and miss the first hole but meet up with your group on the second hole - you play until the 17th hole and receive an emergency phone call and need to leave before you play the 18th hole. Because you did not complete a full 9 on the front or the back - this round is NOT qualified to post. You must complete a full front 9 or a full back 9 to post. If you missed 8 holes on the front but played 9-18 - that is considered a valid round and you may post. If you played holes 1 thru 10 but missed 11 thru 18- it is considered a valid round and you may post.

Rule School

Some questions have come up during our play days. These should help clarify some new rules.

There are no longer special restrictions when a ball is in a penalty area. A player is allowed to touch or move loose impediments, including grounding the club behind the ball, for any reason except to improve conditions for the stroke. You may NOT pull up any living plant or brush. If your ball moves in the process of removing loose impediments you replace your ball without penalty.
You may move loose impediments in a bunker as well as a penalty area, but you may not ground your club prior to making a stroke at the ball.
OWWGC has adopted the local rule for free relief from a sprinkler head that is within two club lengths of the green as long as your ball is within two club lengths of the sprinkler head in the case the sprinkler head interfere with your line of play, stroke or stance.
Ball Moved by Natural Forces: A new exception provides that a ball at rest must be replaced if it moves to another area of the course or comes to rest out of bounds after being dropped, placed or replaced.
Did you know? You must remark your ball on the green if you are going to adjust it. For example, let's say you use a line on your ball to assist with the line you want to start the putt. If you lift your marker and you need to make an adjustment you must remark your ball before you touch it or incur a stroke penalty.

Our Goals

3rd Hole, Olivas Links, Ventura, California

To promote, develop and regulate the interest of women’s golf and to govern the amateur golf activities of women golfers in accordance with the USGA.

To establish and maintain a uniform system of handicapping and adjusting handicaps of members, both in accordance with the rules of golf and the recommendations of the USGA.

To cooperate and comply with the rules and regulations of WPLGA and USGA and to encourage the etiquette of golf and high standards of sportsmanship.

Membership Conditions/Provisions…

Any female person over the age of 18 with a basic knowledge of the rules of golf is eligible for membership.

Prospective members will qualify by playing at least two games on regular tournament play days and submitting five score cards (two may be from the qualifying rounds) from any18 hole regulation golf course.

Prospective members with an established index through another club need only play one qualifying round with a board member.

Members must play to their handicap not to exceed 35.
